Delphina M. Delgadillo - Artist Statement
I never really viewed myself as an artist before the summer of my senior year of college. Sure, I would doodle from time to time, and I always enjoyed a good coloring book, but an artist? No way. I am always doodling on something, napkins, notes, and tabletops, and I am rarely without a sketchbook. Sometimes those doodles and sketches stay put and sometimes they make it onto the computer screen or come to life in some other art form.
My first exposure to graphic design came in a required graphic design class. I soon fell in love and took more classes just so I could learn more. During my senior year at Pepperdine I was given the position as Graphic Design Chair for the university’s Student Programming Board and it was then that I finally considered myself an artist. Working on at least 2 designs a week allowed me to really hone in on what I was good at and forced me to push myself as an artist. Each design helped me define my style and who I am as an artist.
I graduated from Pepperdine University in April with a degree in Advertising and a minor in Multimedia Design. I am currently a freelance graphic designer, a design intern with Plastic Palmtree, and enrolled in a Graphic Design program at Fullerton College. I hope to pursue an MFA and start a design career sometime in the near future.
